pH and Red Cabbage | by Koma Ogaye and Roberta Natera
Koma and Roberta explained to the class what an indicator was, and how it worked. The talked about acids and bases and explained that the juice from the boiled red cabbage would change color if an acid or base was added to it. They demonstrated this procedure to the class.
As part of our GLOBE study, students take the pH of rain water and water from ponds in 15 km area around our study site. Our students wanted to try the red cabbage juice as part of their study. These students now use the juice, pH indicator paper and a pH meter to test their water samples
The large drawings were a great aide for those who could not read from our inclusion program.
